For Thursday 26 April: Please read chapter three of the We Media report (you already read chapters one and two)
This week we will discuss some of the ideas in the We Media report, the first few chapters of which you read for today. In particular, we will be concerned with how participatory journalism might fit into a larger world of journalism.
Today we will address the concept of participatory journalism (sometimes also referred to as citizen journalism), defined in We Media as follows:
“The act of a citizen, or group of citizens, playing an active role in the process of collecting, reporting, analyzing and disseminating news and information. The intent of this participation is to provide independent, reliable, accurate, wide-ranging and relevant information that a democracy requires.”

Participatory journalism… What can be greater for a reader/listener/viewer who doesn’t want just to receive the information? He wants to take an active position, to participate, to express his opinion…
Fortunately, we live in new high-tech era, and almost everything is possible for us from the technical point of view. However, some modest persons are afraid of starting public conversation. Please, don’t be shy, nobody will accuse you if you just express your opinion and share you views. Start today, and you’ll see how easy and interesting is participatory journalsim…
Participatory journalism is a very interesting theme in today’s journalism. We should really appreciate that we live in such time when it is easy and convenient to communicate with the whole world and to get news in such different ways and we really do not have to wait for it for a long time. I like that I can converse with a lot of people when I need it in different forums and chats. The mainest bonus of it is that people can be more informed now.
Participatory journalism is very importany part of journalism, i think, because news which we recieve from participatory journalism can be clear without any extra information or can be filled by gossip or own opinion of eyewitness. what about sites i was on Adam Kesher’s page. I read one article about Eurasia and made conclusion that he made deep analysis of news, but he didn’t give something new except analysis. sometimes it looked like sharing with opinion, althoughinformation was objective.
i think that participatory journalism has been exsisting in every time, threfore, may be participatory journalism was the main establishment of proffessional journalism.
